ps2pdf making very large pdf files

Hi all,

I've got a debian 3.0 system running gs 7.05 and samba and I'm using it as
a pdf printer

after a great deal of mucking around to get a decent printer driver
(getting good results from the HP color LaserJet 5/5M PS) I've got good
looking pdf rolling out the other end, hte only problem is that the files
are very large

I believe the flate option is turned on by default?

does anyone have any ideas for getting more compressed output?
