You should get used to the idea of posting *details* to the list, if you
expect decent answers:  what modem, what brand, what have you already
tried to get it running, etc.

External modems connected via the serial port should usually work well
with Linux.

Internal modems may be supported if they really are modems (ISDN cards,
etc.), but certain internal `modem cards' are nothing but a proprietary
sound card for MS Windoze.  The intelligence is in the win drivers, not
in the card and usually these cards do not work with Linux.

So, you have to know whether you got a Win/Soft-Modem or a `real'
internal modem.
