Sorry, I should have said that the CD's were burnt from ISO's downloaded off 
a RedHat mirror (I can't remember which one, probably aarnet). 

I've installed about 10 or so machines with these CD's without any problems. 
It's not just this particular set either - other CD's (burnt from the same 
ISO's though) have the same problem. 

The interesting thing is that the message states that the cd couldn't be 
mounted - not that it's invalid (e.g. the wrong CD). This is the same for any 
old CD I chuck in the drive. As I said, mounting manually (from the shell on 
virtual terminal 2) also fails so it's not a corrupt CD or anything.
