APM (suspend and standby) not working on ACER Aspire 1203 XV

IIRC, APM requests have been disabled in kernel 2.4.18.  You can't trigger APM
yourself, you can only use APM to see what the system is doing.

If this is the case (someone please confirm?), then you need a new kernel.
