ADSL with USB

I haven't used USB ADSL modems, but I can say that the ethernet ones (almost)
always work.  It seems to be a bit like normal modems - the external ones (almost)
always work, the internal ones often do, provided someone wrote the driver for
it.

Plus you can do things with the ethernet modem like chuck it in a cupboard and
access it over your localnet, which you can't do with a USB one
