DIY home alarm system with Linux

A friend of mine is setting up a regular alarm controller, but
hooked up to an old style mobile phone that will call the last
number in memory when the "power-on" switch is held down. This
also means a loss of power will also trigger the phone.

Subject: DIY home alarm system with Linux

Hi,

I thought it would be fun to make my own home alarm system with a Linux box (I
have a GSM modem too, so I could make it call me/SMS me if needed).

Does anyone know of or have any experience with any wireless sensors (I'm
guessing they'd need to run on 802.11) or know if this kind of thing has been
done already?

I'm off to do some Googling.

Andrew
