I have two of them, one at home and one at work. The hardware 3D
accelleration is not as good as an equivalent generation Nvidia, but it
sure beats software rendering by a long shot. The 2D support though is
at least as good, if not better.

I've used the dual-head when the opportunity presented itself (which
alas is no more) and its very sweet. The hardest trick is finding a
window manager that supports either two screens or Xinerama (or both) in
a usable fashion. On that subject, I've tried both Xinerama and dual
screen and settled on the latter - there's just not enough support yet
for Xinerama and it makes crazy things happen. Hopefully my problems
with that will be addressed with E17 because Xinerama isn't as much of a
hassle to setup (not that its a real hassle at all, just in comparison)

Oh, and I've used them under 3 operating systems and the cards have been
flawless for 12 months. Since Matrox also actively support XFree86 in
open source drivers for their chipsets, I have no qualms highly
recommending their products.
