Hmm, you mean that your database is in 6.5 format but the server is 7.1?
This is bad as the server does not understand older (or newer) formats.
Since pg_dumpall uses the postmaster, it cannot help you here. The only real
solution is to temporarily downgrade the server, pg_dumpall and upgrade
again. What distribution is this?

I'm not sure if pg_upgrade will work in this case.

OTOH, if you have the schema lying around you may be able to use my dumper
program to grab just the data. It's not perfect (several features not
supported) but it might help. Find it at:

I showed it to the postgresql developers but didn't get any response. Let me
