A more luxurious approach, buy a new 20 or 40 Gig disk.
Attach it, partition it generously.
Use rsync or a tar-pipe to copy the existing data into the new partitions.
(solaris required a ufsdump | ufsrestore to copy / and /usr)
If you are going to leave it mounted on a different chain,
edit lilo.conf and fstab.
Run lilo to make it bootable.
Try a reboot,
if it's sweet you have your system tucked into clean linen
without endangering the original copy.
Once you are sure everything is in place,
take it down unplug the old disk.
A 6 gig disk will be useful for the next upgrade
or to try out another distro without loosing your current platform.
