To summarise other respondants:

Your default routing is probably sending all traffic to eth0.

You will need to route traffic for 192.168.0.3 and .4 to eth1.

This may be easier to achieve by creating two different networks,
and routing between them, say 192.168.0.x and 192.168.1.x.

BTW, a hub doesn't cost much and gets very attractive once you have
more than a couple of machines on a network.
