For me, console/text based, I use mutt, for GUI, even when using KDE I
really like Ximian Evolution.  Mind you I have a ath 1.4 with plenty
of ram, so I have no idea how much over head it creates.  But for me
it's acceptable.

I have it setup to read email via IMAP rather then storing the mail
locally.
