SpamAssassin wierdness

If I send a test message to myself from the box that is running the mail
service then spamassassin works, but if I try the same thing from another
box it doesn't work.

The command I am using in both cases is:
cat spam.txt | mail lannet at lannet.com.au

In the first case SA and sendmail logs:
Jun  6 17:16:11 ext sendmail[10572]: g567GBE10572: from=lannet, size=3137,
class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<200206060716.g567GBE10572 at ext.lannet.com.au>,
relay=lannet at localhost
Jun  6 17:16:11 ext spamd[10051]: connection from localhost.localdomain [
127.0.0.1 ] at port 1955
Jun  6 17:16:12 ext spamd[10578]: identified spam (5.1/5.0) for lannet:500
in   1 seconds.
Jun  6 17:16:12 ext sendmail[10574]: g567GBE10572:
to=howard at lannet.com.au, ctladdr=lannet (500/500), delay=00:00:01,
xdelay=00:00:01, mailer=local, pri=33137, dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent

and in the second case it logs:
Jun  6 17:15:01 ext sendmail[10514]: g567F1t10514:
from=<lannet at int.lannet.com.au>, size=3426, class=0, nrcpts=1,
msgid=<200206060715.g567F1829314 at int.lannet.com.au>, proto=ESMTP,
daemon=MTA, relay=lan-255-17.lannet.com.au [192.168.255.17]
Jun  6 17:15:02 ext spamd[10051]: connection from localhost.localdomain [
127.0.0.1 ] at port 1953
Jun 6 17:15:02 ext spamd[10519]: Still running as root: user not
specified, not found, or set to root. Fall back to nobody.
Jun  6 17:15:02 ext sendmail[10515]: g567F1t10514:
to=<lannet at lannet.com.au>, delay=00:00:01, xdelay=00:00:01, mailer=local,
pri=33119, dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent

Any ideas?
