large disks in old machines

I've been upgrading old ATA33 PII/PIII motherboards to ATA100
using Promise Ultra 100 TX2 cards
that I get from YNZ Computers in Cape St Dickson for $89.

I'm delighted with the effect,
I get 4 IDE chains, so no slave disks,
full use of the newer faster disk access,
recognised and works without extra drivers (under Suse8).

I believe that there is an upgrade (extra resistor - re-flash bios)
that turns this card into the FastTrack 100 RAID controller.

You may need to re-flash your motherboard's bios
 to get larger disks recognised.

FWIW,
