I just phoned them again this morning (to make myself one more voice
asking for the service), and it seems "peer-to-peer" is the phrase most
likely to work (when I said "local networking to other customers", the
person I was talking to said, "are you referring to that peer-to-peer
thing?  We've had a number of people ask about that recently...").
"Doomsday device" was the least helpful.

Still no timeframe, but they promised to call me when they know more.
