Well, dick smith has a canon scanner which is supported by sane for $99 I
think.  It was marked down to $88 a couple of months ago.  Full color
flatbed scanner 1200dpi.

I believe it was a Canon 1200UB, being a USB scanner.  They also have some
cheap parallel models.  Most places have sub $200 scanners.  Quite a few
like chandlers or any home electrical place will have them for under 100.
