I use GeForce2 MX200 32MB ram, not ASUS. My .config for 2.4.7 looks more
like :-

#
# Frame-buffer support
#
CONFIG_FB=y
CONFIG_DUMMY_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_FB_RIVA=y
# CONFIG_FB_CLGEN is not set
# CONFIG_FB_PM2 is not set
# CONFIG_FB_CYBER2000 is not set
# CONFIG_FB_VESA is not set
# CONFIG_FB_VGA is not set

And I could not pass any mode to the riva frame buffer. I glimsed the
code once and think that the code does not support passing the video
mode parameter. I might be wrong.

fbset -a "1280x1024-75" does work fine for me.

However, I am still having a toruble getting this card to work properly
with nvidia Xserver on a smp box

Once upon a time, I heard Stephen Gibson say
