Errr... are you blasting the word "foo" at the postscript printer? Does it
know what to do with plain-text? i.e. will it look for a postscript
signature and if not found, treat the input as plain text?

IOW, it may be working, and your test is flawed...

If not, you may want to try something like trying to print to it... or
perhaps "cat my.ps > /dev/lp0"
