They are still expensive (compared to the cost of the hardware they
are going into). I brought my Sun IPC back to life by soldering
a watch battery to the dead NVRAM and following the NVRAM programming
FAQ. Said IPC has now been running Debian very happily. Cost? $3.

Keep an eye out at Revolve for dead Sun gear, or failing that, I should
have a spare somewhere. Definitely read the NVRAM FAQ.
