emergency applying NIS

Dears,I must apply NIS in LTSP.
But i don't know about NIS.But i readed an article on it.
I have 3 problems:
1./etc/auto.local /etc/auto.local /etc/auto.master
2.Am i to configure CLIENT NIS in master server.Because my network is
diskless.So my clients hasn't disk.How i configure them?
3.Do i need to DNS?Because i haven't DNS server.
4.Am i to manipulate /etc/passwd & /etc/shadow files?
5.automount proccess
