In Solaris, the nispasswd is one of these commands left over that is
NOT RECOMMENDED to be used....EVER

First I would start with issuing a "nisdefaults" to be sure you, the
principle are authenticated ( your name does not have "not authenticated")
next to it. In either case issue a "keylogin" and it will prompt your
password, enter it. A no message means that your credentials are OK.

In Solaris, you may need to issue the passwd command with the "-r nisplus"
to be sure that correct repository (fancy name) is being used.

I would bet that either your credentials or the machine you are on have
credential problems. To check the machine you are on, su - (you know,
become root) and do the nisdefaults and keylogin as above.

Hope this was of help. Write again if I missed the boat.
