If you log in to server2 and type nisdefaults, are you authenticated?
Could try keylogout -f and keylogin -r

There are suggestions and I take no responsibility if you blow away your
NIS+ service.

(and yes, rdate might do, but like previous correspondent said, you
should use ntp to synchonrize the whole cluster).
