passwd error => Segmentation fault

I've got my linux box RH 7.2 authenticated in a
master server root Solaris 5.8. I can do a
nisdefaults (and see my box authenticated in a domain),
niscat hosts.org_dir, niscat passwd.org_dir, niscat cred.org_dir, etc.
I want to change root password with "passwd" and "chkey -p".
But, I'm getting error after make a passwd:
[root at ventriloquist root]# passwd
Segmentation fault

I'm running on a compability mode. I only installed
nis-utils-1.4.1-0.i386.rpm and
pam_unix2-1.7-0.i386.rpm on the linux box.


Somebody has any ideas?
