automounter vs. /net

I've managed to get /net working on Debian GNU/Linux 2.2
using pre-release 10 of autofs 4. It uses a script to
get a list of hosts that should be accessible via /net.
You can find the script in the directory containing
example automounter maps.

One of my colleagues has also got /net working with amd
on RedHat Linux and NetBSD.
