The nounix flag did the trick.
Didn't find that option in the mount.cifs manual though.

Also noticed it is possible to mount a share multiple times on the same
mount point. It then appears multiple times when I do a df command and
must be umounted multiple times with root privileges.

This is not possible with NFS mounts for example.
