[linux-cifs-client] Again: question about CIFS versus smbclient.

Hello,

a few days ago I've posted a message with a question about the differences
between a connection based upon smbclient and one based on CIFS.

I'm preparing an article I'm about to write about this subject for the dutch
Linux Magazine.
It does not have to be too technical, and show the differences between
smbclient and CIFS, as said above.

I find it difficult to summarize the pros of mounting wih CIFS compared to
connections based on smbclient.so.
Based on my intuition I would say that the connections based on CIFS are
better. What I consider better is more support of things like transparant
ownerschip, permissions, locking, ACL and inotify. A linuxdesktop machine
with cifs would integrate better with the Windows network than with
smbclient.

I think that's true, but to make it concrete is difficult.

So is what I think true?

Thanks for your reaction,

Stef Bon
