[linux-cifs-client] CIFS "soft mount" like in NFS?

I'm using linux w/CIFS as a backup solution to back up a bunch of windows
boxes, and if I'm running the backup and the person I'm currently backing up
disconnects their computer (i.e. a laptop, to take it home), the whole script
hangs and I can never make the backup finish.  Can't I soft mount it somehow,
like in NFS?  I tried the --timeout option on my rsync command, but that
didn't work if the share hung.
