I have the same problem. First it transfer the data really fast and got slower and slower.

Sometimes it the transmition stops for about 7 seconds, but the transfer was not aborted. This happends also when I copy many small files (from and to the samba server).

I want to try smbfs, but it killed my kernel.
With ftp I get a transfer speed of 8Mbyte/s.
