Far Manager (http://www.rarlab.com/far_manager.htm) is like Midnight
Commander on *nix - a file manager.

as i undestand there is a build-in utility in win2k and later that can
create hardlinks, but it cannot link directories (at least for me,
returns "access denied" for superuser), maybe because directory links
are symlinks not hardlinks.

there are others 3rd party utilities for windows to create symlinks,
f.e. SysInternals Junction
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/misc.shtml#junction - this
utility includes source code.
