[linux-cifs-client] Freezes copying large file with kernel 2.6.6-mm2

Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the right list, so I apologize if it's not.
I used to mount my shares with smbfs but was having lots of problems
with portuguese characters so I decided to try cifs.
I'm having problems copying large files to a Window share (Win2000
Server). I'm copying from my laptop and all the desktop freezes for
quite some long intervals, sometimes for more than a minute. During this
time no disk access is taking place.
Also, it appears start behaving after a few minutes like that, the
pauses becoming shorter and less frequent. The transfer rate is also
very slow, copying between 2 windows machines works at the expected
speed.
Anyone else seeing this? Any idea what the problem might be or how to
find it?
