With cifs version 1.19 and current Samba 3.0.5, I now am satisfied with
fsstress. My minor fix to the client in cifs 1.19 addressed the rare
problem of more than 100 overlapping requests to the same server and
queues them properly (with up to 50 at a time waiting for server smb
response). Although this is rare it could happen (and did happen on
some of our test machines) with fsstress running hundreds of
simultaneous processes on the same client. Even with that client fix I
had been running into problems with the smbd server in Samba 3.0.5pre1
(cifs client was timing out on occassional NTCreate and rename requests
that would get stuck on the server) that are now fixed in more current
Samba 3.0.5 (smbd/process.c). Thank you jra.
The 2.6.7 Linux kernel released this week is quite up to date from a
cifs perspective - and includes all important cifs client fixes except
the one change mentioned above (to fs/cifs/transport.c) which I will
submit next week.
