Sorry, I haven't really followed this thread. But before you proceed too far,
my $0.02: The AFS and NFSv4 people have struggled very hard to get consensus on
an API for per-user credentials that are *not* root-accessible via
non-/dev/kmem ways. You might want to google for 'linux kernel keyring' for
information on this discussion. In AFS this concept is called PAG (Process
Authentication Group (I hope...))
