hmm, it's getting even weirder, i just came back to my windows machine 
and see that it rebooted about a few minutes after the directory and the 
first 0 byte file was created, so at around the time i resetted my linux 
machine.. (i kept it running a few minutes with the "frozen" cp command 
etc) - and my windows machine is very stable, i usually have uptimes of 
several weeks with it.. :/
