Huh?  Heck no!  Samba is more relevant than ever.

It means that the NBT transport is being phased out, as is the SMB/CIFS
protocol.  SMB2 over naked TCP transport is where everything is heading.

The only way to make it work is to understand it, and then to understand it
within the context of your network.  *If* your systems are all running the
NBT transport *and* are configured to respond to broadcast name queries
*and* at least one of the nodes on the LAN is running as a Local Master
Browser, *then* your code might work.

As far as I can see, the code is correct.  It's broadcasting a name query
for the special MSBROWSE name.  The problem is, it's not getting a response.
