I believe if you are using IIS at the front end there is a way to do
something similar within IIS rather than having to roll out registry
updates to client PCs.

 

But I'm struggling to find an online resource to confirm that theory...

I have just tried the regedit change described in
http://jcifs.samba.org/src/docs/ntlmhttpauth.html

& that works - :-)

Sadly, that is not an acceptable solution as it is a client side change
:-(
