I am using winbind with samba to connect the computer to the domain,
wbinfo queries the domain for information such as users or groups. This
verifies that the computer can see and communicate with the domain
servers.

I thought that at first too, I have turned the firewall off on the
computer while testing. Using netstat it shows that winbind has a
connection to the domain server on port 389 and 445. So I know those ports
are open and working.
