Just pointing out the obvious here: you have likely confused 2.3 with 3.2. The
github releases tab doesn't mention any version prior to 3.0(-rc1).

As to why commits/branches seem to have been removed, I don't know. Can't help
with that. I could speculate on old branches having been deleted and the repo
repacked, deleting now-unreachable objects.
