[distcc] getting distcc to compile without localhost

Many thanks -- that's it exactly.

Gentoo's package build/install utility is called "emerge",  and I have 
found confirmation that "pump emerge packagename" works as you describe, 
after the modification to /etc/distcc/hosts.
