I made a mistake. I ran the compilation as root. When I tested as user, distcc 
worked OK!

One other thing: I got doubled lines for some slots in the monitor. See 
appendix.

When I looked at the monitor, I noticed that some compilations seemed to move 
to lower slots and "restart" with preprocess and compilation.
