Yup.  gcc -V has never really worked, except when using very close
version of gcc, such that differences in the interface of internal
programs hasn't changed.

That said, I remember -V had actually been removed from the gcc
development tree before Geoff Keating reimplemented it last June in a
way that would actually work regardless of internal interface changes,
because gcc -V would actually run the compiler driver of the other
selected version.  I don't think this made it to GCC 3.2, though, so
it's something yet to be released.
