[distcc] Problems with distcc hanging on large compiles

Chris,

I'm running 0.8. The symtom you listed below doesn't appear to match my case,
though. The compile isn't failing to distribute, it's just not cleanly closing the
connection after it's finished compiling remotely.

I'll grab the head revision from CVS to see if it fixes my problem. BTW, I've run a
different test (compiling the linux kernel) on a smaller set of machines (all on the
same segment) at home with 0.8 and get occasional hangs here too.

The environment for my home test was a straight Debian setup with all 4-5 machines
all running 2.4.18.

Thanks,

Hien

Hi Hien,

Which version of distcc are you running? Version 0.8 fixes:

    * If for any reason a job can't be distributed, it is run locally rather
than failing. This includes servers which are not running or
unreachable, servers which crash, bad host specifications, etc. (Martin
      Pool)

Try getting the latest distcc from CVS and see if you still have the
same symptoms.

Chris
