Hi Volker,

Ha, I must have missed something when I first investigated this issue. While I was working on the request to update the documentation, I found where we have already documented this error:

[MS-SMB2]
3.3.5.9 Receiving an SMB2 CREATE Request
The status code returned by this operation MUST be one of those defined in [MS-ERREF].

[MS-ERREF]
2.3.1 NTSTATUS Values
0xC0000279
STATUS_IO_REPARSE_TAG_NOT_HANDLED	The layered file system driver for this I/O tag did not handle it when needed.

Please let me know if you have any further questions on this issue.

Hi Volker,

Thank you for the additional information and trace. I will file a request to update the spec, and follow up on the request.

Please let us know at our DocHelp alias if you find additional issues with the documentation.

here is an example of this "in the wild". I installed the NFS server on Windows 2016, and with frame 53 I did a "ln -s x y" over a NFS mount from Linux. Then in frame 83 I tried to read the attributes of "y" and got the REPARSE_TAG_NOT_HANDLED error message.

I don't think any of this is a protocol violation, so I think this needs to be documented.

Thanks,

Volker
