Well, what about 3.3.5.9.14 Handling the SVHDX_OPEN_DEVICE_CONTEXT 
Create Context:

I think this is why Samba is returning INVALID_DEVICE_REQUEST.

(pressing on this point b/c I prefer to back a modification by 
documentation or at least "dochelp says so...")
