[ccache] What policy does ccache use to evict cached entries?

You don't even need to do that!  The answer is in the manual page.

       When the [cache size] limits are reached ccache will reduce the 
       cache to 20% below the numbers you specified in order to avoid 
       doing the cache clean operation too often.
