[ccache] ccache and xcodebuild

Does ccache work with xcode/xcodebuild under MacOS X? I'll try to use 
xcodebuild CC="$HOME/bin/ccache /usr/bin/gcc-3.3" but xcodebuild fails. 
I can't figure out how to change the compiler in XCode (I'd assume 
using CC in the build env settings... but that didn't do anything.) I 
noticed there are some patches for better obj-c/xcode support but the 
patches will not work with ccache-2.3.
