[ccache] ccache internal error

I gave ccache a try and continually get internal errors:

[vaniwaar at vaniwaar-w2k src]$ ccache -s

cache size                            40 Kbytes
max cache size                      1024 Kbytes


Any suggestion as to where to start looking for a solution?

All code is C++, g++ 3.2 under RH Linux 8.0
