Security, an activity of the action line smart energy<br>systems of the EIT ICT Labs, will be held at the EIT ICT<br>Co-Location Centre Node Berlin, alongside the 2012 Berlin<br>IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Conference, on December 3rd,<br>
2012. The Co-location Centre (CLC) is inside the campus of<br>TU Berlin, in the heart of the city's west - a hotspot<br>where education, research and industry, see<br><a href="http://eit.ictlabs.eu/ictlabs/" style="color:rgb(17,85,204)" target="_blank">http://eit.ictlabs.eu/ictlabs/</a><br>

<br>Context and Motivation<br><br>The need for a reliable, efficient, and sustainable energy<br>supply is steadily increasing. The Smart Grid is proposed<br>as an innovative, flexible, adaptable system which<br>revolutionizes the current interconnection architecture and<br>
creates new services and offering new management and<br>business opportunities for many stakeholders. Real-time<br>communication between the consumer and the utility will<br>allow the consumer to optimize local energy production,<br>
storage and usage; power will flow in different directions,<br>depending on where generation takes place; buildings will<br>actively participate of in the grid as consumers,<br>producers, and energy storage facilities; electro-cars can<br>
be charged during low-demand periods and used as short-term<br>energy storage.<br><br>Components will communicate with each other and will<br>provide operational and nonoperational information to users<br>and administrators. This will require the use of global<br>
communication networks, like the Internet, and will open<br>the door to conventional hacking and to cyber attacks. Not<br>only will it be necessary to carefully assess the threads<br>and risks, but also to have a consensus on the definition<br>
and implementation of measures and mechanisms to cope with<br>them, or to recover from them. The infrastructure,<br>workflows, processes and systems must be protected against<br>unauthorized modification, required information should be<br>
accessible in the right place at the right time, the<br>sensitive personally identifiable information (PII) related<br>to the consumption of energy, the location of the electric<br>car, but also confidential business information etc must<br>
remain secure from unauthorized access.<br><br>There is a clear need in Europe to integrate the fragmented<br>research and development efforts in securing the Smart<br>Grid. This workshop will be a venue to share and<br>
consolidate results, plan joint work, and create networks<br>
to accomplish these ambitioned goals.<br><br>Program Committee welcomes proposals for contributions on<br>any topics related to:<br><br>- Attackers, Threats, Risk Analysis<br>- Security of Smart Grid protocols<br>- IDS / IPS / SIEM for Smart Grids / SCADA systems<br>

extended abstracts and short papers should be 2-5 pages<br>long. The authors of extended abstracts should submit a<br>full version to be published in the postproceedings. Short<br>papers can be presented as poster presentations. All papers<br>
will be reviewed by the program committee, and a balanced<br>program will be selected based on relevance and technical<br>soundness. Short paper contributions may be selected as<br>"Poster Presentations". Follow the instructions at the<br>
