[Samba] 2 GB file size limit with libsmbclient and Filesys::SmbClient perl module?!

The timeout problem I reported seems to be a known problem (not fixed yet, as per the bug status):

The windows share I am accessing is across the WAN.
Still, things work fine with smbget, but not with smbclient.
Also, my script does not work with files > 2GB (but I don't see I/O timeouts with my script ever).
