[Samba] Enabling user accounts

I'm importing an smbpasswdfile to a tdbsam file. I run pdbedit -i smbpasswd
-e tdbsam and all the user accounts are successfully imported. The problem
is that all of the user accounts that get imported are disabled. The user
accounts are not disabled in the smbpasswd file. I could run smbpasswd -e
<username> for each user in the smbpasswd file, however smbpasswd requires
that you set a password when you enable a user account, rendering the
import completely worthless. Any ideas?
