winbind: can't join DOMAIN with smbpasswd

Did you create a computer account using Server Manager ??  Also, make sure
you stopped your smbd/nmbd daemons.  If they're running you will not be able
to join the domain.

I've got my samba 2.2.2 server running and working, but while trying to
get winbind working, I'm running into a problem.  Specifically on step
9.5.3.4 from the winbind configuration documentation:

[root at NetServer samba]# smbpasswd -j BIO2RES -r DOMAIN-CONTROL -U
Administrator
Password: 
Error connecting to DOMAIN-CONTROL
Unable to join domain BIO2RES.
[root at NetServer samba]# echo $?
1
[root at NetServer samba]# ping DOMAIN-CONTROL
PING DOMAIN-CONTROL (209.64.53.4) from 209.64.53.11 : 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from DOMAIN-CONTROL (209.64.53.4): icmp_seq=0 ttl=128 time=112 usec

Can anyone help me to figure this out.  Here's some debug output:

[root at NetServer samba]# smbpasswd -j BIO2RES -r DOMAIN-CONTROL -U
Administrator -D4
