Files corrupt under Win98, MS Office

I have a network with Samba 2.0.2 and Win 98 clients. Sometimes it seems that
Samba corrupts files saved from MS Office on a Samba server volume. In the samba
log file I can see something like
[1999/07/26 14:58:24, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection(488)
ulla (172.20.4.4) connect to service Buero as user ulla (uid=1004, gid=101)
(pid 606)
[1999/07/26 14:58:25, 0] smbd/dir.c:dptr_close(280)
Invalid key 256 given to dptr_close
[1999/07/26 14:58:25, 0] smbd/dir.c:dptr_close(280)
Invalid key 257 given to dptr_close
In June 98 there was a thread in this list "NT4 Clients getting error 3013" that
seemed to show a similar problem under Windows NT. The solution was to change
the registry keys
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Rdr\Parameters
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Lanmanworkstation\parameters
to tune the NT file caching settings on the clients.
It seems that I need the same for Win 98. However this special Key is not
existent in Windows 98.
What should I do?
